Essential Math

The five modules of Essential Math are designed to help students master basic mathematical concepts in preparation for advancement to higher-level math courses or for credit remediation. The course includes the following elements:

  • Contextualized content and relevant external websites that connect math to real life
  • Simulated blackboard that presents step-by-step examples
  • Interactive geometry software that allows students to manipulate variables and graph points with immediate feedback
  • Writing assignments and discussion groups
  • Computer-graded self-checks, quizzes, and final exam

Essential Math 1A
The first semester of Essential Math includes three modules. Students gain a foundational understanding of fractions, decimals, percents, and integers in the first module. The second module focuses on statistics, data analysis, and probability. The third module presents algebra and functions.
