Welcome!

"The Wisconsin Virtual School, operated by Cooperative Educational Service Agency (CESA) #9, is an online alternative high school providing core courses for students identified as at-risk by local criteria such as credit deficiencies, adjudication, teen parenting, truancy, or disruptive behavior. We also serve students who are unable to access courses locally due to limited curriculum offerings, scheduling conflicts, illness, homebound status, or school phobia.

We primarily utilize Class.com courses in our program, and students select their pace for learning and course completion rate from traditional, accelerated, and extended options. These content-rich courses are accessed through the Internet with all materials and software needed to support the course provided on a CD. Our success rate has been excellent, and the support that we have received from Class.com has greatly enhanced our success. The company has been very supportive in meeting all of our start-up needs."

Teachers guide students through Class.com courses by differentiating instruction as students progress at their own pace. This is not independent study; it is teacher-directed learning with the benefit of individual attention from a skilled, certified teacher. Teachers adjust pacing so that students work as quickly or as slowly as necessary. The amount of teacher involvement will vary from student to student: some will work independently while others require a great deal of attention.

Class.com content is adaptable for use in a variety of ways: as a supplement to traditional classroom instruction; for blended classrooms with some work online and some face to face; for use as complete, self-contained online course for distance learning; or for acceleration, enrichment, and remediation for individuals who have special needs.

All instructors receive Class.com professional development in best practices for online instruction as well as training in necessary technical skills. Since Class.com courses include all lessons, practice exercises, assignments and assessments, the focus of the instructor is on facilitating the learning rather than planning lessons or classroom management, though teachers can add their own lessons, assignments, or assessments if desired.
