Course Description:
This is an intermediate-level ESL course offered via the Web,
for students who need to learn vocabulary necessary for daily
life. Students meet four newcomers to the United States and become
involved in their introductions and discussions of family members.
They accompany them as they go to the supermarket, shop for clothes,
buy a car, look for an apartment, see a doctor, mail a letter,
visit a school, and dine out. Each student is encouraged to have
a mentor/tutor who will assist with computer setup and guide the
student through the course as needed. This course will be evaluated
on a pass/no pass basis. Students have the opportunity to interact
with their teacher and classmates on the Web. Basic computer skills
are recommended.
