Calculation Carnival
Course Description:
In this web-based course, students review
basic mathematics concepts as they visit the six major areas of
the Carnival: Percentage Pavilion, Fraction Fairway, Integer Island,
Decimal Deluge, Capacity Courts, and Guest Graphing. They are
able to check their mathematics knowledge and decide in which
areas they need to spend the most time. Students refresh their
knowledge of problem-solving strategies and the application of
basic mathematical concepts in real-world situations.
This course is specifically
designed for students who need a refresher course in mathematics
before entering algebra or another math-related course. Basic computer skills are recommended.
Course Contents:
Students will learn
about:
- Reading rulers and
protractors
- Basic units of measurement
- Scale drawings
- Area and volume
- Decimals: addition,
subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Exponents and scientific
notation
- Fractions: addition,
subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Creating and interpreting
line, circle, and bar graphs
- Integers: addition,
subtraction, multiplication, and division
