Discussion Board Rubric
Students must respond to the question within the lesson on the discussion board. They are not being graded on the number of answers, but on the thoughtfulness put into the answers.

Response is totally incorrect or irrelevant or missing. Student attacks another student on the board, or uses profanity in their entries. The student shows minimal understanding.
The student addresses only a small portion of the required question(s) or discussion.
The student does not respond or acknowledge alternative viewpoints in the discussion.

The student completes or discusses some important components of the question and communicates those clearly.
The student demonstrates that there are gaps in their conceptual understanding. The student does not fully respond to alternative viewpoints in the discussion.

The student completes or discusses most important components of the question and communicates those clearly.
The student demonstrates understanding of major concepts even though he/she overlooks or misunderstands some less important ideas or details. The students responds to alternative viewpoints in the discussion.

The student completes or discusses all important components of the question and communicates ideas clearly.
The student demonstrates in-depth understanding of the relevant concepts and/or process.
Where appropriate, the student offers insightful interpretations or extensions (generalizations, applications, analogies). The student engages in active discussion of the topic with those offering alternative viewpoints.
