Conversational English: Everyday English

This beginning-level Conversational English course is for students who need to learn vocabulary necessary for daily life. Students will meet four newcomers to the United States and become involved in their introductions and discussions of family members. They accompany them as they go to a supermarket, shop for clothes, buy a car, look for an apartment, see a doctor, mail a letter, visit a school, and dine out. Each student is encouraged to have a mentor/tutor who will assist with computer setup and help the student through the course as needed. This course will be evaluated on a pass/no pass basis. Students have the opportunity to interact with their teacher and classmates on the Web. Students who complete this course will become familiar with, and be able to use, appropriate survival vocabulary; use communicative language in interactive activities; and practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
