Health Science 1A: Health Games (Health Science--Semester 1)

Students are introduced to healthy lifestyle choices that are built around the basic concepts of physical health and wellness. Nutrition and exercise are emphasized. Students also learn about the health risks associated with tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs. Other subjects addressed include types of illnesses, functions of the major systems of the body, and career choices associated with health. Students who complete this course will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention, allowing them to demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and reduce health risks; demonstrate the ability to access valid health information and health-promoting products and services; demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication, goal-setting, and decision-making skills to enhance health; and analyze the influence of culture, media, technology, and other factors on health.
