Anthropology: Roots of Culture

In this interactive course, students become familiar with their own culture, and they are introduced to cultures from around the world and from different periods in history. The course uses five Roots of Culture: Family, Land, Death, Identity, and Power to explore the similarities and differences in cultural roles in various times and places. Students completing this course will use key cultural concepts to explain and ad analyze aspects of their own culture and compare and contrast it with others; classify types of family relationships, sources of power, meanings of place, aspects of identity, and death rituals; and develop sensitivity and respect for cultural differences.
