Overview

LTI is a way for your LMS to communicate directly with other LTI-compatible software such as Class. Once the Class LTI tool is integrated into your LMS, you’ll be able to create and launch a class directly from your LMS. Learners will also be able to launch from the LMS. This will eliminate the need for you to roster learners ahead of time and verify them once they join a class session. Currently, the Course Launch feature will work with any LMS that leverages LTI v1 and v1.3.

Setting up your LTI Class

Once the Class LTI configuration has been set up by your institution’s LMS administrator, instructors can now add the Class link to their courses. Instructors will see the Class setup/session creation screen when they navigate to the Class integration in their LMS.

Please note: A course instructor needs to be the first to navigate to the Class link in their LMS course.  If a course has multiple instructors, the first instructor to navigate to the Class link will be the primary host for the session. Until that action is taken, learners will receive a message that their Class still needs to be set up by their instructor.

Once the navigation item has been accessed by the instructor, the Class has been successfully created, and all users—instructors, assistants, and learners, should see the Class course launch screen shown within the LMS.

To begin, select Settings & Schedule which will open an Edit Class menu. All the settings on this menu are editable and can be changed after the class has been created. Simply click back on this button at any time should you need to make any changes. You’ll notice that the Class name input field will be auto-populated to match the name of the class in your LMS. A class ID and description can both be added but are optional.

Next, you will need to input the days and times your class is scheduled to occur. Begin with specifying the days of the week your class is scheduled to meet. Choose the start and end date to reflect how long your class date range is set to run. Finally, set the start and end times for your specific time zone. If your class meeting times vary throughout the week, you can add alternate times and days of the week from the add more dates button.

Once you’ve finished setting the schedule you’ll notice that all the specific dates that fall within the scheduled date range will populate in this selected dates list. Should there be any dates in this list on which you know your class will not occur, we recommend deleting them that way the automated class attendance and participation date would not be skewed.

Class will auto-generate a passcode, but you won’t actually need this to enter your classes, nor will your participants because of our verification process. You can decide whether you want your waiting room on or off and if you’d like learners to be able to join before the instructor. Give all the settings one final look over, then hit save to confirm the settings for your class. Remember to select Join Classroom to create the course in the Class application.

Users will be able to authorize Class with shared access permissions
