Q: Do I need to keep Class Updated?

A: Make sure that you have the latest Class version on your system. Open Class,  the Play Store, or the app store, and check for updates.

Q: How do I update Class?

A: To ensure you are on the latest version of the app for Mac, on the Menu bar select “Class” and then “Check for Updates…”

If the Class application has no updates a new window will appear saying “You’re up-to-date!”

If an update is available, a new window will appear, where you can select “Install Update.” You can also select “Automatically download and install updates in the future” and Class will automatically update if there is an update available upon launch.

The Class application in Windows will automatically check for software updates when the application is opened. If an update is available a window will appear saying “A new version of Class is available!” Class recommends always updating to the latest version of the application.


  • What operating systems does Class support?

    • Mac OS – A minimum version of Big Sur 11.1 is required for Class version 2.5 and above
      • For Class version 2.4 and below, a minimum version of Catalina 10.15
    • Windows 10 and higher, Dual-core 2Ghz or higher, 4Gbs of RAM
    • iPadOS 13.0 and higher
    • Android 8 and higher, Intel and ARM processors, minimum screen size 600 dp
    • Chromebooks manufactured after 2016 with access to the Google play store

     Notes:

    • These all support instructor capabilities.

    • We support Mac Minis.
    • We do not support Android phones or iPhones.

    • iPads and Android tablets currently are not supported in the use of the Web App.

    • We require the Chrome Browser to use Web App – Google Chrome v69.0.0 or higher
    • Android 9 doesn’t have the ability to share audio in screen share, but Android 11 does

Q: What type of access do I need on my Windows device to be able to install Class?

A: You must have admin access and the ability to install third-party apps.


 

Q: Does Class support Chromebook?

A: We support all Chromebooks that have access to PlayStore.

  • Chromebooks manufactured after 2020 should all come with PlayStore already installed and users will be able to download and install Class.
  • Chromebooks manufactured from 2016-2019 either have PlayStore or Chrome Web-Store.
  • Chromebooks noted on this device list with a status of “stable channel” should have access to PlayStore.
  • Those that have the PlayStore will be able to download and install Class
  • Chromebooks noted on this device list with a status of “planned” likely only have access to Chrome Web-Store and may not be able to download PlayStore, and in turn Class.
  • The Chrome Web Store may be able to download PlayStore through a google channel depending on the devices.
  • Chromebooks manufactured before 2016 will not be able to download and install Class

 

Q: How do you push the app from the admin console in the play store to all Chromebooks?

Q: Does Class work on the Zoom Web Interface?

A: For the best experience, users should download the Class app to join and participate in classes. If a user does not have the Class app downloaded, they can join through the Zoom app. It is not recommended to use the Zoom web interface to join a class that your instructor is running through Class.


Q: Which browser works best with Class?

A: For the best experience using Class, we recommend using the most up-to-date version of Google Chrome. Click here to update Google Chrome Browser.


Q: Does a learner need a Zoom account to access Class?

A: A Zoom account is not required.


Q: Does Class function with Zoom Rooms?

A: Yes, Zoom Rooms is what is used to integrate existing video conferencing systems right into Zoom. It will work because the class is just like a Zoom meeting. Zoom Room participants will be able to be on a shared video screen but to use quizzespolls, etc, they will also need to sign in from an individual device to use Class.


Q: Do I need to enable PMI in my Zoom settings for office hours to function?

A: Class uses the PMI (Personal meeting ID) of a user’s Zoom account. Enabling your PMI for your account is necessary to utilize the Office Hours feature. To learn more about Zoom’s PMI, click here.


Q: Is there a max file size for the share files feature?

A: Max file size in the share file feature is 128MB.


Q: Which video streaming services are supported on Class?

A: YouTube and YouTube Kids is currently supported on the Play Video and Browse the Web feature in Class.

Note: Please use https:// when sharing a website.


Q: What are Class bandwidth requirements?

A: The bandwidth used by Class will be optimized for the best experience based on the participant’s network. It will automatically adjust for 3G, WiFi, or wired environments.

Recommended bandwidth for meetings:

  • For 1:1 video calling:
    • For high-quality video: 600kbps (up/down)
    • For 720p HD video: 1.2Mbps (up/down)
    • For 1080p HD video: 3.8Mbps/3.0Mbps (up/down)
  • For group video calling:
    • For high-quality video: 1.0 Mbps/600kbps (up/down)
    • For 720p HD video: 2.6Mbps/1.8Mbps (up/down)
    • For 1080p HD video: 3.8Mbps/3.0Mbps (up/down)
    • For gallery view receiving: 2.0Mbps (25 views), 4.0Mbps (49 views)
  • For screen sharing only (no video thumbnail): 50-75kbps
  • For screen sharing with video thumbnail: 50-150kbps
  • For audio VoiP: 60-80kbps

Q: Can I share my account login with another user?

A: It is recommended to not share account logins with other users. If the login is being used in more than one location, this can cause severe issues with using Class. Make sure to use your own login when using Class. If you have any questions, please reach out to the Product Support Team.

Q: What permissions does Class require for LTI?

Q: Can an instructor clear reactions?

A: Yes, instructions will have an option to clear all reactions.

Q: Can you turn off reactions at an admin level?

A: No, reactions are not a configurable feature.

Q: Do stars reset each session?

A: Yes, stars will reset after each session.

Q: Can an instructor lower a participant’s hand?

A: Yes, individually and there is a ‘lower all hands’ option.

Q: Is the proctor view recordable?

A: No, currently proctor view is not recordable.

Q: Who can see the proctor view?

A: The instructor that launched it as well as any other instructors and assistants.

Q: How is participation (talk time) measured?

A:
  • Participants with more than one standard deviation below the average talk time are in the small red bar.
  • Participants within one standard deviation of the average talk time are the middling yellow bar.
  • Participants greater than one standard deviation above the average talk time are the big green bar.

Q: Can you make a participant a presenter before turning on Front of the Room?

A: Yes, before and after turning on Front of Room.

Q: Does front of room persist across sessions?

A: Yes, you will need to manually toggle it off on each session if preferred.

Q: Do Front of Room presenters remain at the FOR within their break out rooms?

A:  No, any user assigned the “presenter” label in the main classroom and assigned to the front of the room loses the label upon entering a BOR and will not appear in the FOR in the BOR. An instructor will need to join, assign, and turn FOR on within the BOR.

Q:  If a participant is in privacy mode during a recorded class, will their video show in the recording?

A: Yes, videos of participants in privacy mode will show in the recording if they are sharing their video when in privacy mode.

Q:  Do participants in privacy mode stay in privacy mode in BORs?

A: Yes, this setting remains on through the whole session.

Q:  Can you turn privacy mode off for breakout rooms only?

A: No, the privacy mode setting selected in the main classroom persists in BORs. No way to have it on in main classrom and off in BORs

Q:  Does privacy mode settings persist from session to session?

A:   No, they need to be set at the start of each Class.

Q: Can you bulk delete learners from a roster?

A:   No, removing a learner from a roster needs to be done manually one-by-one.

Q: Can I manually add a roster ahead of time?

A:   Yes, there are three options for adding a roster in advance:
manually one-by-one, manually list format, bulk CSV import. Follow this guide on how to add participants. 

Q: What file types are supported for bulk import?

A:  Currently we only support the upload of a .csv file with learner names and email addresses.
