Instructions for LTI 1.1

Please note: Below will display the steps on how to set up a new LTI 1.1 integration.

1.

Go to your Class Administrator settings. Login and then select the Integrations tab. Note: You must have Class Admin access and permissions.

Selecting documentation will take you to the vendor documentation. Locate and press the Create button at the top right corner to create a new LTI Integration for Moodle.

3.

Give your new integration a name so that you remember what the configuration is for. Select Moodle as the LMS from the dropdown menu. 

Select LTI 1.1 for a basic LTI 1.1. Integration.

4.

[Optional] Press the Advanced Settings option to customize LMS attributes. These are optional settings and are not required. Contact your LMS administrator for assistance in configuring these settings.

Press the Save button to save your selection. 

Setup Class LTI 1.1 in Moodle

Your Moodle Site Administrator might first need to enable Class for your Moodle site before you can add the Class activity to a Moodle course.

To Add the Class app to Moodle, via Site Administration, your Moodle Admin would login in as Admin, navigate to the Site Administration area, then go to Plugins > Activity Modules > External Tools > Manage Tools.

Select Configure a Tool Manually and enter form fields – including selecting LTI version – as needed to configure the LTI tool in Moodle. Please consult your Moodle Administrator, local Moodle experts or Moodle user documentation for further details on the Moodle set up steps.

Select the LTI 1.1 option. Complete the required and other form fields and apply the following settings: 

  • Services: Select to Use the service to retrieve member information
  • Privacy: Select to share launcher name and email with the tool provider
  • Miscellaneous: Set the default organization ID to Site ID

 

Once configured, Course Builders and Teachers with privileges can then add the LTI 1.1 Class Activity to their courses.

Instructions for LTI 1.3

Before getting started, please contact your Moodle Site Administrator to request LTI 1.3 or LTI Advantage configuration for Class. 

The Moodle Site Administrator and the Class Administrator work together to generate Class and Moodle requirements then plug in information to connect the two platforms together.

Go to your Class Administrator portal. Login then select the Integrations tab. Create a new LTI Integration and select the LTI 1.3 option.

Note: You must have Admin permissions.

With the LTI 1.3 Option selected, additional fields will open. These fields will include information from Class that will be used to set up LTI Advantage in Moodle by your Moodle Administrator.

Your Moodle administrator will need to create a new connection with Class, which will generate new data that will then be entered into Class to complete the connection. There is a section in Class on the configuration page where this data will be added.

Setup Class LTI 1.3 in Moodle

Please consult your Moodle Administrator, local Moodle experts or Moodle user documentation for details on the Moodle set up steps and necessary permissions.

To set up the Class app in Moodle, your Moodle Admin would login in as Admin, navigate to the Site Administration area, then go to  Plugins > Activity Modules > External Tools > Manage Tools.

Select Configure a Tool Manually and enter form fields – including selecting LTI version – as needed to configure the LTI tool in Moodle. 

Tool Settings

Only the required fields need to be completed.

  • Tool Name: [Your choice, something that makes sense for your course builders to recognize Class]
  • Tool URL: [https://yourdomain.class.com] or the Class AWS URL from your LTI 1.3 configuration page 
  • LTI Version: [Select LTI 1.3]
  • Public Key Type: [Keyset URL]
  • Public keyset: [Paste Keyset URL from Class]
  • Initiate login URL: [Paste OIDC Endpoint from Class]
  • Redirection URI(s): [Paste redirect-url from Class]
  • Custom parameters: [Optional]
  • Tool configuration usage: [Your choice. *Note: Your selection will affect how teachers will select the tool in their course]
  • Default launch container: [Embed, without blocks]
  • Services: Select to Use the service to retrieve member information
  • Privacy: Select to share launcher name and email with the tool provider
  • Miscellaneous: Set the default organization ID to Site ID

Press the Save Changes button.

Finish the configuration in Class

Then, in Moodle, locate the Tool you just made in the list of available tools. 

Select the menu icon on the configured tool to view the Configuration Details to view and copy paste into Class.

The table below indicates the mapping of the information between Moodle and Class.

Add Class to a Moodle Course

In Editing mode, Add an Activity or Resource to your course. Your Moodle administrator may have made it very easy for you to find the Class tool! If not, use the search feature or ask your LMS team for help.

Please Note: Experience will vary depending on how the Moodle Administrator configured the tool to display in “Tool configuration usage”.

You can edit the display name for the activity to help students find and use the Class app in your course.

3.

You can begin using the Class application to create a session schedule with days and dates so that students know when to join the live events. Use the “Edit Class Details” and “Add Class Dates” buttons to manage the schedule and details right inside of Moodle. 

Viewing Class in Moodle (LTI 1.1 and LTI 1.3)

Using LTI 1.1 or LTI 1.3. The user experience will be the same. The differences are primarily on the backend in how data services and data security are provided.
