Instructors have three options to set Privacy Mode for learners in Class. Instructors can make Privacy Mode optional, allowing learners to choose whether or not they want other learners to see their video. Instructors can also turn Privacy Mode on/off for all learners so that learners do not/do see each other’s videos. The instructor will always be able to see learners’ videos, no matter how this feature is configured.

When instructors set Privacy Mode to Off for all Learners, learners can see each other’s video feed whenever their cameras are on in Class. Privacy Mode set to off is the default for each session.

When Privacy mode is set to On for all learners, learners will not be able to see each other’s video feed at all whenever their cameras are on in Class. The instructor will still be able to see all learners’ video feeds if their cameras are on.

Setting Privacy Mode to Let learners Decide will enable learners to decide whether or not they want other learners to view their video feed when their camera is on.

When Privacy Mode is set to On, learners on the Web App will no longer see private tiles for other learners in the Gallery View. Those learners will continue to display in the Participants list. Learners will only see their own video tiles with privacy mode enabled.

When Privacy Mode is set to Let Learners Decide, learners on the Web App will no longer see private tiles for other learners in the Gallery View when those learners have decided to enable Privacy Mode for themselves. Those learners will continue to display in the Participants list.

The easiest way to know if a user has privacy mode enabled is by checking to see if there is a slashed eye icon next to their name in the gallery view.

Privacy Mode only makes video feed private, not audio.
FAQs:
Q: If a participant is in privacy mode during a recorded class, will their video show in the recording?
A: Videos of participants in privacy mode will be asked to enable their camera to show in the recording if they are sharing their video when in privacy mode. It will not automatically enable their video on the recording.
Q: Do participants in privacy mode stay in privacy mode in Break out rooms?
A: Yes, this setting remains on throughout the whole session.
Q: Can you turn privacy mode off for breakout rooms only?
A: No, the privacy mode setting selected in the main classroom persists in Break out rooms. There is no way to have it on in the main classroom and off in Break out rooms.
Q: Does privacy mode settings persist from session to session?
A: No, they must be set at each class’s start.
